The second Church built in 1775 was used as a hospital by General Washington in winter of 1777-78. The third church was renovated in 1972, with an addition as pictured. Taylor was born in 1851. He graduated from Baylor University and was ordained to the ministry in 1879. Z. C. Taylor and his wife Kate served as Southern Baptist missionaries to Brazil. Together, with fellow missionaries William B. and Anne Luther Bagby, they formed a church in Bahia in 1882, the first Baptist church in Brazil composed of Brazilians.
