This statue officially dedicated Oct. 29, 1939 when a host of more than 10,000 persons made the pilgrimage afoot up the long winding road to the summit. It is the realization of an idea in the mind of Father Coast, Priest of a little smelter parish on the outskirts of El Paso. Contributing Institution: Princeton Theological Seminary Library Description: All Saints' Episcopal Church began as a Mission in 1909 with 26 communicants. The first church building, a frame structure was erected in 1909 on the southwest corner of Selma and Ann Streets. Later it was moved to the corner of Ann and Government Streets. The present church, of English Gothic Architecture, was erected in 1915, and the old church was used as a parish house. When the present Parish House was built in 1928, the old church building was moved into the backyard where is it in use as an annex to the parish house. Here the religious ceremony of taking possession of the land in the name of God and of the King of Spain, took place, and the first Holy Mass was celebrated. Scene of the martyrdom of Father Rodriquez of a Franciscan Brother during the Indian revolt of 1597. Dismantled and abandoned during the border raids from Georgia. Rebuilt by Bishop Verot in 1873, blown down by a storm a year later. Erected by Bishop Curley in 1918. Restored and furnished as a Chapel by Mrs. Gen. Hardin in memory of General Martin D.
