The woman stretches her hands outward in helplessness, and her clothes are torn. Two of those already dead appear dressed in loincloth, and the third is clothed. These soldiers drive the martyrs up a slope and around a tree trunk. They then force the martyrs over the edge of the summit. The victims fall onto sharp pikes and are impaled. A town is visible in the distance. The design of the illustration is based on Albrecht Dürer's Martyrdom of the Ten Thousand (c.1496). (Cartouche: "Christia[n]s driue[n] up the mou[n]taines.34.79."
